Board Recruitment
Successful Fundraising + Building Permit + Spring Ground Breaking = Recruitment of New Board Members
Shall we start at the beginning? So, what about this new home for children being built in El Cardonal? The John Gullo Home For Children will be a home to protect vulnerable children throughout Baja California Sur whose families are experiencing a medical crisis.
Including a very successful donor match fundraiser where we raised over $30,000 at the end of 2023, Leaders2Give has enough designated funds to undertake our first phase of the building project which will see all the buildings erected. After further funds are secured, the subsequent phases would include finishing the buildings with electrical, plumbing, doors, windows, plaster, paint, fans, and more as well as renovating the existing building and adding a visitors bathroom.
Having the money to begin is one thing. Having the authority to do so is quite another. Anyone who has undertaken any such project in Mexico (or has had to do anything official for that matter) can probably appreciate the challenges we had in obtaining our building permit for the home. But obtain it we did!
We are so excited to announce that we are planning to break ground this Spring with our sights set on March. Stay tuned, we would absolutely love to see you there! We also hope to organize a work party this year where we can all chip in to help with the progress. Make sure you are subscribed to our newsletters so you can be notified when there is new information about these events and the headway being made on the home.
And last, but not least, all this progress has led us to the point where we are looking for new candidates to add to our organization. Leaders2Give is now accepting applications for new Directors for its all-volunteer Board. If you’re looking for a way to get more involved in your community and help make a difference, this could be the very thing! Click here to learn more about this opportunity.
Thank you for all your support in 2022 as none of this would be possible without you! We look forward to 2023 with much excitement.

The John Gullo Home For Children
Most of our news was in this issue of “Feel Good News” above, but one more thing to watch for is the sign we will be erecting in El Cardonal at the site of the new children’s home.
The site, which already has a front wall and one small building, is located across the street from Las Terrazas.
New Creation Kids Children’s Home
As you probably know by now, Leaders2Give is an all volunteer organization whose purpose is to protect vulnerable children - and the kids that find themselves living at New Creation Kids certainly fall under that category. The role that Leaders2Give plays with this facility is financial sustainment.
Thanks to you - our generous donors - we are able to cover the costs of food, school, uniforms and books, propane, electricity, and more.
Obviously, this goes a long way but the real glue that holds things together are the many volunteers who donate their time to help keep things running.
In fact, a group of kind souls who wish to remain anonymous have been hard at work there over the last few months working at the childrens home.
In December they completed a roof overhaul, purchased and installed a new fridge / freezer, delivered new mattresses, hauled away debris and more. Presently, they are completing some painting and minor repairs while continuing to explore the best approach to take the facility completely off grid.
We also have enough funds to sustain the home throughout 2023 so on behalf of our entire board of directors and the children we serve please accept our sincere gratitude!
The East Cape Health Center
The East Cape Health Center is talking about Women’s Health Care for the East Cape. Actually, they’re not just talking, they’re building out a private / personal consultation room, bringing in the appropriate equipment, and partnering with Dra Ingrid Quintero - OB/Gyn Specialist.
The East Cape Health Center is excited to announce the upcoming creation of a women’s consultation room within the clinic, designed to provide compassionate female health care in a supportive and comfortable environment. Services will include the diagnosis and treatment of women’s health issues including gynecology and obstetrics in a dedicated room fully equipped for private consultations and birthing. According to Char Wenger, the clinic’s founder and CEO, “with the creation of the women’s health room, the East Cape Medical Center will bring comprehensive women’s medical care to the East Cape region -- especially to those most in need.”
The East Cape Guild
The good news is the East Cape Guild will be funding more scholarships this year than any time in its over 25 year history; 143 High school students and 75 college scholarships for the 2022-23 school year. The other good news is that to raise the necessary funds for these scholarships, the Guild will be holding a series of fun events, dates are listed below. No bad news.
Back by popular demand is the Guild scavenger hunt to be held on February 2, 2023. Last year, was the first scavenger hunt/dinner and fun was had by all. This year the scavenger hunt will be partnered with a Tamale cook-off.
The Epic Bike Race will take place on February 9, 2023.
The Guild will bring back Monte Carlo night, one of the most popular events in the area. Monte Carlo night will take place on February 26, 2023 at the Spa Rancho Buena Vista, one of the Guild’s longest and most loyal supporters.
Finally, the Guild is excited to announce it will host its very first Music Festival with a concert to take place on March 25, 2023 and a more exclusive dinner/concert event prior to the concert. The event will include a group of song writers from Nashville, Rob Lamothe (a songwriter/performer and lead singer of RiverDogs) and some other talent.
Look for more information on these events on the Everything Los Barriles Facebook page and on the Baja Pony Express e-newsletter.
John Plotkin’s annual East Cape calendar this year will benefit the Guild. The calendar will be available for purchase at the Los Barriles Saturday markets beginning December, at Guild meetings, and at the Pickleball Tournament.
Guild meetings are open to the public. Learn more on how you can help our community by providing education.

SNAP - Spay, Neuter, and Prevention
As a follow up to SNAP/L2G's participation in the fundraiser for the x-ray machine and other equipment for our SNAP veterinarian at Clinica Veterinaria Buenos Aires all the equipment has been purchased and installed improving the services that are able to be provided in Los Barriles.
SNAP is excited about 2023! It will be their 10th year of existence. Look for their calendar on Facebook of fun events each month to celebrate and continue the great success of educating the communities about responsible pet ownership.
Líderes Para Dar
Líderes Para Dar is the Mexican non-profit organization which serves as a sister organization to Leaders2Give. Líderes Para Dar, which translates to Leaders To Give, will assist Leaders2Give in fulfilling its charitable work in Mexico.
The two organizations share the same mission. Alongside Leaders2Give, Líderes Para Dar is over seeing the construction of the El Cardonal Children’s Home Project and will also be sharing oversight of its operation once the facility is functioning.
