SNAP believes children are agents for change. Responsible pet ownership encourages kids to develop skills to become caregivers. This is especially true for vulnerable children in developing communities and communities in crisis as young pet owners benefit greatly from their interactions with animals by developing self-confidence and self-esteem. Pet ownership also encourages kids to develop healthy habits such as compassion and empathy.
There is a very important mentoring and leadership component of SNAP. SNAP works to find youth that are interested in being role models amongst their peers by taking an active role in creating solutions for animal care, neglect, or abuse. In addition, young adults are mentored to be trusted influencers among our target demographics of pet owners. They also mentor youth on how to become leaders and change makers for their community on social causes.
SNAP also has an Animal Appreciation class for pre-school, primary and secondary children on how to be responsible pet owners.
