Soft-Opening!

[scroll down for Partner updates]

We’re excited to announce the soft-opening of the John Gullo Home for Children! The home is fully furnished, the space is ready, and now we want to invite you to get a first look before we officially open our doors.

This soft-opening is your chance to tour the facility, meet the team, and learn more about the home’s function in Baja California Sur….

…but we need your input to help us decide the best date for this event. We’ve put together a short survey to gather your availability.

Why is it a “Soft” Opening?

The reality is we need $157,500 to cover 18 months of operational expenses in order to officially open. We’ve already secured $35,000, but we need your help to raise the rest. Without these funds, the home will remain empty, and the families who need it will have to wait.

Help Us Open the Doors

The need is urgent, and with your support, we can open the doors for families who have nowhere else to turn to bring their children. Please consider donating today to help us reach our goal.

PARTNER UPDATES

Líderes Para Dar / John Gullo Home for Children

Now that all the furniture has been set up and all the appliances are in, we want to keep everthing safe and secure. To that end we have installed a 100% wireless security system. These are battery powered cameras with a small solar panel so they never need to be recharged.

They have been placed at the entry points of the property as well as other key areas. Each camera has its own memory giving us constant close, high definition images of everyone who comes and goes.

We also have a family currently living there for added security.

The home is ready, please help us raise the operational money needed to start accepting the children whose families need this facility.

New Creation Kids (NCK) Children’s Home

Many of us have watched our family members and neighbours get their kids ready to go back to school recently. Maybe you had to do it for your own kids… new clothes, shoes, school supplies, and on it goes. The sad truth, however, is that many kids simply aren’t fortunate enough to go to school let alone get new digs for the big first day.

Now, here’s the good news… We are filled with gratitude for the many kind and generous people who have donated to ensure that the children of New Creation Kids - Nueva Creaçion Niñas do get to attend school and proudly arrive with their new uniforms, backpacks, and school books.

A heartfelt thanks to our generous and compassionate donor community from our all-volunteer Board of Directors for your generosity. You inspire us every day!

The East Cape Health Center

The East Cape Health Center’s commitment to healing extends beyond medicine – it encompasses a wide variety of community assistance, where every act of care it provides stitches together a healthier, more resilient community. As an example of this commitment, during the summer months, the clinic arranged for a medical intern to temporarily join the clinic’s team in order to learn the intricacies of quality care and cohesive services from the clinic’s staff.

With an array of in-house diagnosticservices and equipment, including x-ray capability and its own lab,the clinic provided valuable first-hand medical training that thisintern will be able to take back to his community. These types of experiences allow the East Cape Health Center tofulfill its mission of not only providing quality medical and dentalcare to the East Cape area, but to help educate future youngprofessionals. By teaching and promoting high professionalstandards, in addition to compassion, listening skills, empathy, andclear communication, the clinic greatly enhanced this intern’scareer development and helped create an even better future doctor.

Feeding The Hungry

Why Give? This is a question Feeding the Hungry wanted to tackle this month and, for the record, we agree! Read on…

On the face of it giving away some of what you have worked hard for, and sometimes sacrificed to get, seems crazy.

However, life will give you so much more if you are a giver not a taker.  If you cultivate your giving spirit, you will be surprised at how generous life can be to you.

Those who go through life with a closed fist, tightly gripping on to what they believe is theirs, miss all the opportunities that life pours into open hands.

Most of us like hanging around with generous, positive, fun-loving folk. One of the ironies of life is that the more giving you are, the more you receive. If you develop a giving nature, you will find that life becomes much more enjoyable. People want to be around you and join with whatever you are doing.

If you would like to give- compassion, time, expertise, money,  to those in need in the Los Barriles community, please contact Ben and Harriet Purkey purkeybh@gmail.com or Gordon and Joy Blackie gordonandjoy@gmail.com and enjoy the gift of giving.

SNAP - Spay, Neuter, and Prevention

This year, SNAP (Spay Neuter and Prevention - Los Barriles) has achieved a remarkable milestone, providing 1,136 surgeries, surpassing the 919 surgeries completed by this time last year. Each surgery brings us closer to a community where every family pet is healthy, loved, and safe.

Why Spay and Neuter?

Spaying and neutering are crucial for preventing unwanted litters and improving pet health. These procedures reduce the risk of certain cancers, decrease behavioral issues, and reduce the burden placed on families and the community with fewer homeless animals roaming the streets.

Community Impact

Every surgery paid for by SNAP helps reduce the number of stray and homeless animals, easing the strain on the local shelters. Spaying and neutering also help curb the spread of disease, making our community safer for pets and people alike.

Your Support Matters

This success is possible thanks to the generous support of our community. Donations, volunteer hours, and advocacy all contribute to the lifesaving work we do.

Get Involved

Donate: Your contributions fund essential surgeries.
Volunteer: Join our efforts in the field or by spreading the word.
Advocate: Encourage others to spay and neuter their pets.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, we are making a lasting difference in the lives of animals in Los Barriles.
